Castle courtyard
Originally, the courtyard was intended as a transhipment point for goods stored in the corridors under the arcades. Only the outer walls date from the 17th century. The arcades were removed in the 1950s during the restoration of the castle and then rebuilt. Great Stockalper named the three towers after the three kings Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar. The sun adorning the main tower was golden at the time, as a sign of his wealth.
Good to know
Brig is easily accessible by private car or train. The castle courtyard is about a 10-minute walk from Brig railway station. There are two entrances to the courtyard: the main entrance on the cobbled street "Burgschaft" and the entrance via the castle garden.
