Getting here
Brig-Simplon is located in the heart of the Upper Valais and is easy to reach with public transport or by car. If you are planning to get here via public transport, simply take the train to Brig station and then hop on the PostBus to Simplon, Rosswald, Rothwald or Brigerbad. If you’re heading to Rosswald, the highlight of the trip awaits you shortly before the alp – the ride on the cable car. You can also easily reach the Brig-Simplon holiday region by car.
From the north, you can reach the Valais via the Lötschberg car transport service from Kandersteg to Goppenstein.
From the east, take the Furka car transport service from Goms or the Alpine passes to Brig. (Make sure you check the current conditions such as winter closure or car transport service.)
From the south, you can reach Brig directly via the Simplon Pass, which is usually accessible by vehicle all year round. Please check for updates, as there may be restrictions in the event of heavy snowfall. Alternatively, you can take the car transport service from Iselle (I) to Brig.
From the west, take the A9 motorway to Brig via Sierre.
Brig can be reached by public transport via the Simplon tunnel, Lötschberg tunnel or from the Lower Valais. Thanks to regular connections, you can get there directly in no time at all.
Starting in Bern, the slower but prettier route on the RegioExpress Lötschberger train takes you through the Bernese Oberland via Kandersteg, the Lötschberg tunnel and Goppenstein, down the Lötschberg south ramp and on to Brig. Beautiful views of Lake Thun and across the Rhone Valley are guaranteed on this choice of route.
Buses are available for the onward journey to the individual municipalities in the region. Gondo, Brigerbad, Termen, Ried-Brig, Rosswald, Rothwald, Simplon Pass, Simplon village and Glis can be reached with the PostBus or local bus from Brig train station. Trips to Zermatt and Goms can be made with the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway.
Family-friendly Rosswald can be found directly above Brig.
In summer, Rosswald can be reached by cable car and by car. To get to the car park on Rosswald (where you have to pay for parking), you have to drive up to the Alp along narrow mountain roads, where there is very little room for letting other vehicles pass. We therefore recommend that you avoid travelling to Rosswald by car if possible. In summer, take the opportunity to park your car free of charge at the valley station in Ried-Brig and ride up with the cable car.
In winter, the road to Rosswald is closed to traffic and you can only reach Rosswald by cable car.
You can reach Simplon by car and public transport in both summer and winter, from Brig or Domodossola (I). The pass is also accessible by vehicle in winter, but please check for updates.
In the summer months, the Zwischbergental valley above Gondo is served by the PubliCar, which runs at fixed times by prior arrangement.
