Monument

Metziltenturm

The Metziltenturm is part of the convent complex. Today, the five-storey solid building forms the oldest part of the convent building of the convent of St. Ursula founded by Stockalper. The house was built in 1526 by provincial governor Kaspar Metzilten. Peter Metzilten, an impoverished descendant of the governor, was forced to sell the tower in 1673 to Kaspar von Stockalper, who gave it to the Ursulines along with the associated tree garden.  Stockalper had given the Metzilten Tower to the first four Ursulines in Brig.

As the convent grew economically stronger in the first half of the 18th century, a three-storey wing was added to the convent building in the 1920s.

In the 1990s, under the direction of architect Adalbert Grand and with the help of the monument protection authorities, a major restoration is being carried out and as far as possible, the accurate state of the monastery's foundation in 1661 has been restored.
