Monument

old Stockalper house

Peter von Stockalper (ca.1495-1563), the great-grandfather of Kaspar von Stockalper (1609-1691), had the manor house built around 1532, presumably by the well-known master builder Ulrich Ruffiner von Prismell.

Originally, it consisted of a five-storey wall construction with a staircase tower integrated into the building cube. It served Kaspar von Stockalper as his family residence. He had the house renovated and extended to include a hall with arcades in front, a chapel and a small enclosed courtyard. The house chapel dedicated to the three holy kings contains a silver altar by the Augsburg silversmith Samuel Hornung. A two-storey arcade forms the link to the large trading house, the Stockalper Palace, which he had built between 1651 and 1671.

Today, the rooms of the old Stockalper house are home to the restaurant Schlosskeller.
