According to legend, Johanna Fy was an innkeeper in the Taferna during the time of Stockalper, and she diluted the wine with water for visitors passing through. After her death, she had to pay for it. As a "poor soul" she is supposed to atone for her guilt in the cold water glacier, from which the hiker hears her lamentation in the night. The cellar and stables were located on the basement floor of the house, which was built of irregular quarry stones. The upper floors, accessible via an external staircase on the eaves side, contained the former guest room and kitchen as well as living and sleeping quarters. The year 1684 can be found on the lintel of the entrance to the basement.
