Stadel in Brei

The stilted log building stands on a plinth made of a construction of horizontal and vertical beams over a foundation wall. The entrance to the barn with the projecting threshing floor below is located in the western eaves wall. Above the entrance, the blockwork is advanced by one beam width ("Vorschutz") and the slightly sloped gable roof above it forms a canopy. The gable construction consists of a ridgepole ("Heidenbalken") into which the beams of the gable field are grooved at an angle. Due to this ancient gable construction, the Stadel was probably built before 1500.

The Stadel is the building of the grain building. Many Stadel also have granaries, which were once used to store grain, meat and other provisions.
