A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms

02.11.2024
"A German Requiem" is Johannes Brahms' most important choral work, which helped him achieve his international breakthrough in the late 1860s.
In contrast to the traditional Latin mass texts of a requiem mass, Brahms chose biblical passages from the Luther Bible for his "German Requiem". The result is a work that is less concerned with the salvation of the deceased than with giving people comfort and hope.
The Oberwalliser Vokalensemble under the direction of Hansruedi Kämpfen will perform this work on All Souls' Day 2024. The successful collaboration with the CHAARTS ensemble, with whom the OVE already performed Orff's "Carmina Burana" in 2022, Mendelssohn's "Elijah" in 2023 and Bach's "Mass in B minor" in spring 2024, will continue. The young local soprano Véronique Marty and the up-and-coming baritone Florian Störtz have been secured as soloists.
Look forward with us to an unforgettable and moving concert experience.
