The hike starts at the Salwald restaurant above Mund. First follow the usual hiking trail to Hourmattewald. After a while, the path branches off into a smaller path. The path leads steadily uphill through the beautiful forest to Bättchrizji. The tranquillity and views from this magical place are priceless and worth every drop of sweat. The descent leads back to the starting point via Alpe Brischeru.
The trail can also be started in Mund. The hike is then approx. 2:15 hours longer.
Mund (1223 m)
Mund
The hike starts at the saffron village Mund and leads you steeply uphill at first. Between Tähischinu and Färchu you pass the first small chapel. From here you can see up to Bättchrizji, below you can see the hamlet of Bodma. Once you reach the top of the rock in the forest, you can enjoy the view. On the right edge of the picture you can see the village of "Finnu". The path is now pathless in places and leads up to Bättchrizji. It lies behind hollows and humps and is not easy to find. And finally you reach the long-awaited Chrizji (cross).
Despite the "impossible to miss" marking of the hiking trails, we recommend for safety reasons to always have an appropriate hiking map with you, so that you can quickly find a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or emergency, for example.
Especially in autumn, you should also be aware that leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. After storms, trees can still fall over or branches can fall down. Especially in adverse weather conditions, muddy and slippery passages can occur on natural paths. You have to expect this kind of path obstruction when you go on a hike.
Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. In some cases surefootedness is required. If you think that certain sections of the trail are not passable for you, you should avoid them.
Sturdy shoes, clothing suitable for the weather, sun and rain protection, as well as sufficient supplies of food and drink, should there be no refreshment or shopping facilities available or open. The trail is only marked with "cairns" in places. For safety reasons, you should always have a suitable hiking map with you. Walking sticks can make hiking easier.

From Italy (Aosta, Mt. Blanc Tunnel): Aosta - Grand Saint Bernard tunnel (over the pass in summer) - Martigny: A9 motorway - Sierre: Sierre - Brig main road.

Birgisch / Mund
From Brig you can reach Birgisch and Mund via Naters.
You can find a car park at the Salwald restaurant or a little higher up in the Äbi.
Take the post bus to Mund village and start your tour there.
